Oh, one more thing to note, Torchlight has a pretty good endgame (randomized maps and NG+/NG++), which Diablo III doesn't currently seem to have. Vanilla was just okay, but some of the mods made it a lot of fun. That being said it's definitely worth it if its 5 dollars, its a great game that probably has 50 or 60 dollars worth of content. Personally I think the Path system is a great idea, but that planning out a build can be such a huge timesuck (researching where to put passives is time consuming and you will totally screw up a build if you don't rush the right things at pretty much any difficulty other than standard). I think if you understand how to effectively build a character and really like how the passive and active mechanics work in Path, then Torchlight might be a bit lackluster. I shouldn't need to tell you about the mechanics of Path of Exile considering you've already played it. The game also feels a lot more polished, things look much nicer than PoE, combat feels more diverse and you don't necessarily need to just depend on one or two skills for a build, and the artwork is also much more diverse than PoE where you'll see the same enemies all over the place. Veteran/Elite are supposed to be considerably harder). I think the game is generally easier too (I've only played normal thus far in Torchlight but it felt much easier than Diablo or PoE. It plays like most other aRPG's in that respect. the skill web of PoE, you unlock new actives in an active skill tree through leveling, etc. Torchlight is more "traditional" in the way you build characters, meaning that you put your stats into actives and passives separately, you just add x amount of points to a few different passives vs. But Path of Exile is a darker, maturer, deeper game. D-3 is absolute garbage and not worth the space it takes up in a garbage can, horrible product made by a horrible, lying, stealing, scumbag company. More generally than others have mentioned, I'd say that PoE gives you a lot more freedom and possibilities in your builds, but is also generally less forgiving. Torchlight 2 is an excellent game and certainly worth every penny and is very player friendly.
